Never before in such uncertain times, the question arises as to what type of product, offered by the market, one can invest in the hope of not putting one's savings at risk. Leaving them in the bank would seem the most reassuring choice but certainly the least profitable with the risk of forced withdrawals, patrimonial or similar.

Then there are other solutions to try to grow the initial capital, trying to risk as little as possible and sometimes relying on virtual markets, or rather on economic scenes in which one invests in something that does not actually exist.

An interesting look could be placed on the world of whisky, always sparkling and evolving. Invest in whisky (as also in other spirits or distillates) today it seems a contradiction, precisely because of the real presence of the object in which to invest, almost like a work of art by a famous and quoted artist, whose works gain in value every year.

Advice on how to choose the best Whisky for investment

Our feeling is therefore that of being able believe in whisky as an investment object, often starting from bottles with a non-prohibitive price but which will grow inexorably: our advice is therefore to start thinking about a move of this kind and, if you are interested in advice on how to start or continue in this sector, we are available to be able to give you all the tools to choose carefully and with due calm, together with the preparation that we have accumulated over years of experience in the sale (and purchase) of fine, valuable, collectible bottles.

To start investing in whisky we can think of a rather low figure compared to other investments (real estate, watches, sports cars, diamonds) and indeed, with a small portfolio available, we can split our efforts across multiple bottles, in order to have more possibilities to maximize the investment.

After having thought of an amount to allocate to this type of investment, we have to check which are the possible bottles to buy: the best are the limited edition bottles, especially if with a few thousand labels per edition.

Another detail not to be overlooked is the reference company, or the distillery that has taken charge of the contents of the bottle from start to finish: the best-known and largest distilleries often offer limited editions with peculiar or extremely long aging, with well-finished packaging or special construction prerogatives.

Another element to consider is the country of origin: certainly Scotland seems to be a paradise for collectors, but there are other countries that offer equally rare and equally prestigious bottlings, such as some US bourbon labels or whisky from refined Japan, a country that has built a more than solid reputation over the past two decades.

There are many food for thought but we limit ourselves to pointing out the reasoning that we often find ourselves sharing with our loyal customers, so that they have a good dose of elements from which to start and then think about how to invest their money in whisky: not an option for the most inexperienced of investors, but an asset that is starting to build credibility even in large portfolios and that will soon have entry barriers that are quite difficult to circumvent.

2 best examples Whisky for investment

We want to conclude this article with two examples of investment bottles which, in two different ways, have been able to re-evaluate themselves and also by a fair percentage.

The Macallan is certainly a name to focus on with your eyes closed and, although some of the Distillery's proposals already start from an important price, some particular releases can give satisfaction: The Macallan Concept Number 1 is a bottle released in 2018 and designed in a limited edition (albeit over 80.000 bottles) for the Travel Retail circuit of the airports and offered at a price of just over €100. Today the same bottle, a therefore after only four/five years, it can be purchased for at least €800: a figure more than five times higher than the starting price.

Another example - this time fairly more casual than the previous one - is linked to a distillery in Taiwan, Kavalan, responsible for a large number of whisky high-grade and single cask bottles, already prized in themselves due to the rarity of the whisky and also of origin, certainly not one of the first countries that come to mind when talking about whisky. Kavalan has achieved many excellent scores among world critics and several bottles initially sold for around €100, they reached quotations of five or six times the original value precisely because of the rather encouraging assessments of world critics.

Even the press can change the value of a single bottle, especially if the critic is among the most popular or if the competition is actually well received by enthusiasts.
