Buffalo Trace Distillery
The distillery is located on the path once crossed by the large herds of buffaloes, near the Kentucky River, hence the name of the "Buffalo Trace Distillery". The first settlement dates back to 1775, while the first distillery was built by the Blanton family in 1857; about 30 years later it passed into the hands of Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr, who renamed it with the name "Old-Fashioned Copper Distillery". In 1999 it changes its name from "Ancient Age" to the one we know today; known as the most awarded distillery in the world it belongs to the "Sazerac Company".
Buffalo Trace produces about 54 million liters a year and uses it to produce its own whiskey, a high percentage of corn; particularly carbonised barrels are used for the maturation and the distillate is cold filtered to give the wine greater flavour whiskey.
