Whisky Bushmills Steamship Rum Cask Reserve

What does rum have to do with this bottle of whisky? Simple, rum is the distillate that has been aged in the barrels which then contained the whisky, which was finally bottled and put on the market. The practice of using “second hand” barrels is at least as old as the whisky, or at least dates back several centuries. Not knowing how to carry the whisky from one side to the other, the distillers thought it well to put it in containers that were easy to move and chose the wooden barrel. In addition to the convenience of transport, people realized that the passage in the wood was going to improve the whiskey, both in terms of color which went from transparent to dark, and in terms of aromas and flavours, certainly less youthful and more elegant.

Bushmills, a distillery that has been active for over four centuries, has created this limited series intended for the Travel Retail circuit of international airports and recently available on the market, with this whiskey which refines in barrels that have contained Caribbean Rum: an example of how the marriage between two distant worlds can be perfect.

TASTE: Intense and soft, with an important spicy component, white pepper and cinnamon, then cigar tobacco, cane sugar and tropical fruit.

AGING: Oak barrels ex Caribbean Rum.
