Drambuie

Drambuie is the famous liqueur made from whisky Scottish aged, spices, herbs and heather honey owned by the company William Grant & Sons.

The origins of the recipe date back to the 1746th century, when the Royal Apothecary created it for Prince Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie. The prince returned from Rome to regain the English throne, taking his personal drink with him, but he had to stop his enterprise with the defeat of 100 at the Battle of Culloden. Pursued by the King's Clans, he was helped by John MacKinnon of Skye to escape the British Isles forever; in return the prince revealed the secret recipe. About 1893 years later an island hotelier named John Ross had the recipe revealed by the MacKinnon family, and in 1914 their son James registered the patent for the name "Drambuie". In XNUMX Drambuie Liquor Company Ltd was born, thanks to the wife of John Roos, and the production moved to Edinburgh.

The name Drambuie is taken from the Scottish Gaelic 'An Dram Buidheach' and means "The drink that satisfies".

The liqueur has been produced and distributed by William Grant & Sons since 2014 and the secret recipe remains kept in a safe at a company plant.
