Glen Scotia
Glen Scotia is one of the last survivors in the Campbeltown malt-producing region. The distillery was founded in 1832 by city guild dean James Stewart and John Galbraith. In 1835 Glen Scotia was one of Campbeltown's 29 thriving distilleries; came modernized in 1992; after a period of inactivity production resumed in 1999. It draws water from two deep wells under the buildings and from Crosshill Loch, and processes lightly peated malted barley. The whisky it ages in ex Bourbon American oak barrels, in ex Sherry European casks and in some barrels already used.
