The Highland Park Distillery it was founded at the end of the 1798th century in XNUMX; its founder Magnus Eunson was a historic smuggler. The distillery is located in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands on the north coast of Scotland, where the North Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean in a wild and beautiful landscape.
Strong and relentless winds create gods whisky incredible and unique and, they are responsible for the aromatic and floral smokiness that we appreciate in whisky of Highland Park, the peat is in fact devoid of wood but rich in heather.
Orkney was settled and ruled by the Vikings from 800 AD to 1468 who left an important mark on the culture of the inhabitants of the Orkney Islands; in the distillery still today the production methods of whisky and the choice of the staves with which the barrels are created takes place thanks to the traditions handed down by their Viking ancestors.
The Highland Park distillery collaborates with carefully managed forests and selects the European and American oaks from which to obtain the staves which will be shipped to Spain and transformed into barrels. The barrels will be filled with Spanish sherry, left to mature and then sent back to the Orkney Islands, ready to be used by the Highland Park distillery.
The Highland Park distillery wanted to pay homage to the precious legacy that the Vikings left in Orkney, making them protagonists in some whisky of their wide range.
