Inchgower Distillery, initially known as Tochieneal, was built by Alexander Wilson in the Cullen area; His grandson later managed to expand the business, but was forced to close its doors in 1870, when a rent increase made the distillery too expensive. In 1871 production was moved to a new distillery under the name of Inchgower, which remained in the Wilson family until 1929. In 1936 the distillery was bought by Buckie Town Council in 1936, following the bankruptcy of Alexander Wilson and Co. and later two years Arthur Bell and Sons bought the distillery for £ 3.000.
Since 1987 Inchgower has been owned by Diageo, with the majority of the over two million liters produced annually going to blended whisky and a small percentage intended for lovers of pure distillate, often only through independent bottlers.
