Jim Beam
The origins of Jim Beam date back to the eighteenth century, when a German farmer named Jacob Boehm moved from Virginia to land in Bourbon County in Kentucky, where he later founded a small distillery; in 1854 Jacob's grandson moved the company to Nelson County, founding Clear Springs. In 1880 James Beauregard Beam "Jim Beam", the great-grandson named Jacob Boehm, joined the company and saw the company prosper until the advent of Prohibition, which forced them to close.
In 1933 Jim Beam at the age of 70 founded the Clermont Distillery near old Clear Springs. In 1935, the first batch of post-Prohibition Bourbon since it no longer held the rights to use the name Old Tub, was bottled under the name Colonel James B. Beam Bourbon; in the same year T. Jeremiah “Jere” Beam, son of Colonel James B. Beam re-founded the distillery under the name Jim B. Beam Distilling Company and renamed the Bourbon as "Jim Beam" in honor of his father.
After 150 years of ownership, the Jim Beam family sold the company to Harry Blum in 1945; nin 1960 the nephew by Jim Beam, F. Booker Noe Jr., becomes Master Distiller Emeritus of the Boston Distillery in Kentucky. Meanwhile Jim Beam opens a second distillery in Boston. Fred Noe (Frederick Booker Noe III), representing the seventh generation of the Beam, is an associate distiller of the Clermont factories.
After being owned by the Fortune brands in January 2014 it was sold to Suntory, becoming Beam Suntory.
