Kaikyo Distillery
The Yonezawa family, also founder of Akashi-Tai Sake, began distilling Shochu in 1917. In 2017 the company underwent a profound renewal by replacing the old column still with a twin-pot still produced by the famous Forsyth's in Scotland, the historic manufacturer of stills. The name Kaikyo derives from the famous Akashi-Kaikyo bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world, which connects the city of Kobe to Awaji island passing over the Akashi Strait. Although the single malts distilled from the new still are not ready yet, we can enjoy the line in the meantime hatozaki, dedicated to the ancient lighthouse of the port of Akashi which has been guiding ships since 1620.
