Kujira 5 Year Old White Oak Virgin Cask originates from one of the oldest distilleries in Japan, namely the Masahiro distillery which has been offering distillates since 1883, initially not with the whisky which arrived much later, with the series Kujira, or Whale. The distillery decided to do things differently than the rest of the world and decided to try distilling rice, then perfecting the process before giving birth to this and the other bottles in the line. To underline the diversity compared to the other cereals usually used in distillation, Kujira 5 Year Old White Oak Virgin Cask ages for over five years in virgin oak barrels, i.e. not affected by other distillates: this refinement also takes place in a sub-tropical climate on the island of Okinawa, ensuring a shorter but also more intense process.
