Masataka Taketsuru is certainly the most important character in the creation of the whisky Japanese as we know it today. His is the idea of studying the art of Scottish distillation and try to replicate it in Japan, his native country. From then on, Masataka spent decades consolidating the distillation techniques he learned in his youth to create whisky 100% Japanese, with the peculiarities of this Asian state. From the original project today Nikka has come to a position of international fame, especially in the last decade in which the whisky Japanese is abundantly sought after all over the world.
Nikka has two main production sites, namely Yoichi and Miyagikyo, distilleries that often collaborate in the creation of blended whisky, including this Super Rare Old. This bottle has been on the market since 1962, Masataka wanted to pay homage to his wife Rita (of Scottish origins) who died shortly before. This blended is made up of whisky of barley and whisky of wheat, mixing the peculiarities of the two types to offer the consumer a complete, elegant and versatile product.
TASTE
The palate is harmonious and intriguing, combining the most intense notes of peat and refinement with the soft and elegant material of the distillate, notes of cereals and dried fruit, a good spicy presence of black pepper and ginger, the latter giving a discreet spiciness that is prolonged in the final, enveloping and persistent.

Nikka Rare Old Super is probably the longest-lived bottle in the history of whisky Japanese: before WWII the whisky it was indeed known in the country but not so appreciated by the Japanese, also because the innovator and pioneer Masataka Taketsuru had well thought of also importing peat, going to heavily characterize the whisky.
An item that the Japanese consumer likes whisky it is especially the gustatory elegance, a characteristic that the former whisky of Masataka did not have: after having reflected for many years and having decided to continue along the path undertaken - despite the economic and personal difficulties - Masataka gave birth to an important number of whisky that defined the Japanese style. The Japanese style requires first of all elegance and gustatory finesse, thanks also to the skilful use of whisky of wheat which gives soft and polite tones, without ever sinning in character.
