Port Ellen
Port Ellen distillery was founded in 1825 and is located near the main port of communication with the mainland, the arrival point for ferries to and from the island of Islay. After closing in 1930, the distillery was rebuilt in 1967 and distilled during the boom years of the 70s until 1983: a whisky intended for the production of blended scotch whisky, which became much in demand in the good drawing rooms of Europe during the reconstruction. Over the years, apart from the iconic pagodas and warehouses, nothing remains of the original site.
