Talisker
On the Isle of Skye, also known as the Misty Isle (the foggy island), in 1823 there were 7 authorized distilleries, today Talisker it has remained the only active one, having survived the storms of Loch Harport and a fire which seriously damaged it in 1960. To reach Carbost you have to travel a long and narrow road on the island, whipped by rain and wind. To get to the distillery it seems you have to deceive the vigilance of the black "Cuillins", the volcanic mountains erected in the middle of the island as wild guardians. This bulwark is sufficient to preserve the inaccessible character typical of the northern islands of Scotland. So is his whisky proud and austere, but warm and indulgent for those who don't let themselves be discouraged by appearances, thanks also to the mineral-rich water of the springs on Cnoc nan Speireag, which on their way through the heather and peat, helps to give the whisky its unique and robust taste. The distillate is aged in ex Bourbon American oak barrels and in large Sherry casks.
