Tullamore Dew
Tullamore, the capital of County Offaly, is the third largest city in the Midlands, located in the center of Ireland. The name of the city derives from Tulach Mhór which means Big Hill", to identify an area surrounded by mountains and peat bogs, in a fertile agricultural land that supplies barley and pure water, both essential for the creation of the whiskey. The original Tullamore distillery was founded in 1829 by the Molloy brothers. It later passed to the Daly family who ran the business in the 1890s together with Daniel Edmund Williams, the then general manager. The name of whiskey pays homage to its provenance and heritage, featuring the city where it is made and the initials of founding father Daniel Edmund Williams (DEW) who became the owner of the company in the 1890s and inspired the launch of the famous whisky Irish Tullamore Dew. The distillery and the city prospered throughout the first part of the 900s until the closure in 59 and the unification of all the production of the whiskey Irish under the monopoly of The Irish Distillers Group.
In September 2014 the new Tullamore distillery opened its doors bringing the brand back to its original home. This marked a turning point in Irish's production renaissance Whiskey.
