Whisky Yamazakura blended Whisky
700ml BOTTLE
Cherry Mountain: this is the meaning behind the word Yamazakura, or the name that the distillery has decided to give to this Blended Whisky. We are in Japan in the city of Koriyama, and Sasanokawa Shuzo was founded in 1765 to produce sake and shochu, the typical Japanese rice derivatives. Since 1946 the distillery has also decided to embark on the production of whisky, going to create elegant and soft blends to meet the taste of local consumers. From that moment on, production has never stopped, even if the most important phase in commercial terms is recent, with enthusiasts from all over the world eager to get their hands on a bottle of whisky Japanese.
The exports are recent, but Yamazakura has managed to be appreciated all over the globe, thanks to the skilful blend of whisky of corn and 20% of whisky of malt, before an important aging in oak barrels that previously contained American Bourbon.
TASTE
The alcohol content of 40% vol makes it accessible to everyone, thanks also to a structure of finesse and elegance played on fruity notes, of ripe fruit, and the consistent notes of aging, from vanilla to caramel notes and spices reminiscent of roasting of hazelnuts. With an elegant and soft body, without excessive harshness.
AGING
American oak barrels ex Bourbon.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT WHISKY YAMAZAKURA BLENDED
The history of whisky in Japan it turned exactly one century in 2023, from the pioneering innovations of Masataka Taketsuru in this area, after returning from Scotland in the company of his Scottish wife and a wealth of experience to exploit. Masataka's dream lasted for many years, until the whole world noticed the goodness and high quality of whisky Japanese, more or less at the turn of the century.
From that moment on, history has undergone a sharp acceleration and today the whisky Japanese is one of the most requested and exported in the world, so much so that stocks of casks have dropped drastically and several new distilleries have entered this sector. Another element is the innovation of the distillation of whisky by distilleries of sake or shochu, the two traditional Japanese distillates. Yamazakura is one of these, with a distilling tradition that goes back almost 250 years before meeting the whisky after WWII and in conjunction with Taketsuru's best innovations.
Today Yamazakura is one of the hot names in the Japanese landscape and this Yamazakura Blended Whisky is nothing but a prime example of the quality of whisky of this distillery, a whisky that makes you travel with your sense of smell to distant lands, where the search for perfection by refining the details is a practice and is part of the DNA of the Land of the Rising Sun. As practically always happens, a mystery surrounds the whisky of this country and Yamazakura Blended Whisky.
Not putting references to aging in terms of years or specific barrels on the label. This mystery remains why the distillery prefers it to be the whisky to speak and not a sterile technical sheet, then leaving free interpretation to whoever puts his nose and mouth into it whisky. The delicacy and elegance that can be found in this Yamazakura Blended Whisky are certainly the fruit of the skilful blend of whisky of malted barley and of whisky of farmsteads combined with a superfine use of wood, with refinements that are never exasperated or too short.
The intent of the distillery is to collect the best prerogatives of whisky and combine them with the dexterity of the distillery team, preferring a delicate and elegant hand and avoiding over the top intensity, for a whisky which we also really like in cocktails, for the politeness with which it listens to the other ingredients, giving it an edge and obtaining satisfactory results in every detail. Interesting to offer as a simple highball, therefore with a few ice cubes and a tonic of your choice, for a refreshing cocktail that can also be served with the table, as is the custom in various restaurants in Japan.
