In 1976 to commemorate the centenary foundation of the Guatemala city Zacapa, the company Anejos de Altura SA produced Rum Zacapa, a premium quality Rum. Thanks to the continuous search for perfection of the master blender Lorena Vásquez, Rum Zacapa is created using the best Guatemalan raw materials, using the first squeezing of virgin sugar cane and subsequently aged with the Solera System.
The "Solera Method" is the aging process where rums of different ages and characteristics are aged in different types of barrels chosen to give the distillate different aromatic profiles. Zacapa chooses for its Solera Method to age the Rum at an altitude of 2.300 meters above sea level, acquiring unmistakable aromas.
For the packaging of some of the Zacapa Rums, hand-woven palm mat bands are used, which give the bottles their Guatemalan authenticity.
