Whisky Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood
700ml BOTTLE
The Balvenie is one of the best known Scottish distilleries when it comes to elegance and refinement, combined with the unique character of a long fermentation and aging in barrels, always pronounced. The distillery was founded in 1892 by William Grant, the same founder of Glendiffich a few years earlier: Grant understood that the request for whisky of Speyside malt was abundant enough to push him to found two distilleries at a short geographical distance. Grant also took advantage of the serious fire that had recently hit Glenlivet, another local giant, so he put together the pieces of the distillery from other companies. Balvenie still stands out today for the obsessive attention to care in every phase of the distillation and for the abundance of excellent releases, limited series and with very pronounced aging, extremely interesting for collectors.
The Balvenie 12 Year Old belongs to the DoubleWood series, that is the bottlings always available in the distillery line, with an aging in ex Bourbon oak barrels and a stay of a few months in ex Sherry barrels: defining such a basic product is an understatement, seen the high standard of the distillery in each release.
TASTE
Intense and elegant, the sweet component found on the nose with honey, dried pastries and dried fruit is reaffirmed, together with spicy notes that guarantee a nice depth. Custard, black pepper and vanilla scents.
AGING
Ex Bourbon oak barrels and ex Sherry Oloroso Spanish oak barrels.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT WHISKY BALVENIE 12 YEAR OLD DOUBLEWOOD
The Balvenie sets itself apart from all others whisky of Speyside for a light note of honey that is felt in every glass of this whisky: from the most refined - with aging even longer than half a century - to whisky younger ones, like this balvenie 12 doublewood, the characteristic note appears throughout, giving continuity and the guarantee of authenticity. However, entrusting the task of acting as an entrance ticket to a twelve-year-old "boy" is rare, in a historical moment in which many distilleries prefer to let labels without age declaration play in this role.
The application for whisky Scotland is high, but Balvenie prefers to wait for the correct years to give the consumer who buys the bottle a whisky of high quality standard, a standard that can only be respected by waiting long years in oak barrels, being able to also exploit some of the best woods on the planet to make a home for one's spirit.
