Mortlach 23 Year Old Sherry Finish Oloroso Wilson & Morgan is one of whisky most interesting that can be found on the market right now: first of all, Mortlach is a Speyside distillery but, despite coming from one of the densest areas of distilleries in Scotland, it has the great advantage of having a slightly different production process which on a white spirit that tends to be more “meaty” and “farmy” than the cleaner one of all its neighbours. In addition to this, this bottle belongs to an extremely limited series coming from a selection by Wilson & Morgan, the legendary Italian breeder responsible for a wide range of real excellences over the last three decades.
This whisky it spends about 16 years in ex Bourbon casks before concluding the refinement for seven years in two ex Sherry Oloroso casks, the famous sweet wine that can compete with the strength and intensity of Mortlach's spirit. Only 632 bottles came out of this selection, moreover at full strength, without dilution with water.
TASTE: Fruity and contained sweetness, citrus fruits and custard, dried fruit and cocoa beans.
AGING: American oak barrels ex Bourbon and European oak barrels ex Sherry Oloroso.
