Whisky Port Charlotte 10 Year Old
BOTTLE NOT CARTONED 700ml
Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is the first age-declared release for this famous brand from the Isle of Islay, the home of whisky peated. The history of Port Charlotte is peculiar: the distillery was founded in 1829 by Colin Campbell who, after a few years, had the small town built - still alive today - to house the many employees of the distillery. After several decades the crisis of the whisky it also hit here and the distillery had to close. After several years, Bruichladdich's "neighbors" instead deemed it appropriate to renew the Port Charlotte brand and place it alongside their own as an alternative to whisky peat that the splendid distillery overlooking the sea offers.
Port Charlotte is therefore the peated version of Bruichladdich malt, with a concentration of around 40 parts per million of peat, a decidedly substantial number. The peculiarity of this whisky it also consists of aging conducted for 65% in ex bourbon barrels, 10% ex bourbon refill barrels (i.e. already used at least twice) and 25% in barrels that previously contained French wine (unspecified).
Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is a flag of Made in Islay, a whisky finely peated and with an incisive and intense soul, a nice business card for those who want to know or delve deeper into the whisky of peat island. Not only that: the consistent refinement has given depth to this distillate and the selection of the barrels that make up this malt cannot leave anyone indifferent. Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is not afraid to compete with any other great peat on the Isle of Islay.
