The Singletons
The Singleton is a brand owned by Diageo, which since 2007 has been headed by three distilleries: Dufftown, Glendullan and Glen Ord.
The oldest of the three is Glendullan, founded in 1897 in Dufftown in Speyside by William Williams & Sons Ltd., a blender from Aberdeen; this distillery in addition to supplying most of the whisky for the Diageo blends, he creates an expression for the American market, the Singleton of Glendullan.
The Dufftown distillery was a mill until 1896, which saw the birth of a pagoda and several extensions in the 70s; most of the production ends up in the Bell's, even if the Singleton has managed in recent years to significantly increase the prestige of the distillery.
Glen Ord Distillery is a rather unknown distillery. However within a few years it doubled its production to over 11 million litres, which places it among the largest in Scotland. The whisky it is used for many Diageo blends, while also producing a single malt called "The Singleton of Glen Ord", often associated with the Asian market.
