Heroic Bitter Essentia Mediteranea

700ml BOTTLE

The story of Amaro Eroico begins in Calabria in the Altomonte area known in the Middle Ages as Magna Grecia. At that time the territory of Magna Graecia was inhabited by several monks and hermits from both the East and Sicily who had moved from their country of origin to escape from barbarian persecutions.

Thus settling in this area thanks to their chemical and medical skills they managed to create tonics based on essences and essential oils that they sought in the vast Mediterranean scrub that the area offered.

There were several recipes created by these monks but one in particular has managed to reach the present day. Legend has it that it is the elixir of life first created by a princess, who experimented these potions directly on herself, being also an expert herbalist of the renowned Salernitana Medical School. In aid of the troops on her return from the front, this princess called a group of these newly arrived monks and asked them to help her prepare this elixir in large quantities in order to serve it to the army. Thus it was that these monks inherited the no longer secret recipe of this tonic. From this moment on, the recipe was only improved to make it more usable to anyone who wanted to taste it.

The infusion was made of Mediterranean herbs combined with citron, lemon and bitter orange peel.

Nowadays there are 22 essences for the Amaro Eroico recipe. The bittering part is given by the essences of gentian, bitter orange and cinchona while the sweet part is given by the almond and licorice. A riot of both olfactory and gustatory aromas are also given by the balsamic essences of oregano, rosemary and juniper, typically Mediterranean herbs. The citrus character is given by the red orange of Sicily, lemon of Sorrento and bergamot, cedar, mandarin of Calabria.

All the botanicals are harvested at different times of the year, to keep their organoleptic properties intact. The essences are each matured with its own time before mixing them but the times are still kept secret to always maintain the unparalleled product.

TASTE: Soft and with great balance between its components. Balanced between bitter and balsamic and also between sweet and citrus, with spicy and persistent notes
