Glengyle Distillery
Glengyle was founded in 1872 by the Mitchell family, the noted owners of whisky Scottish Springbank, as a site for the production of a whisky high quality peat.
With the advent of American Prohibition, exports had to stop, forcing distilleries to turn to the domestic market. In 1925 Gleygyle was closed.
In the early 2000s, Archibold Mitchell's great-grandson, Hedley G. Wright, current president of Springbank, bought the Glengyle Distillery buildings, bringing it back to life and in the hands of his family.
2009 is the year of the return to the market, Kilkerran Work in Progress 1 is presented, a 5-year single malt that is released with aging in ex Bourbon barrels or in ex Sherry barrels.
The name Kilkerran derives from the Gaelic tradition and indicates the place where the city of Campbeltown stands.
