Whisky Laphroaig Lore

700ml BOTTLE

The smoky and maritime character of Laphroaig is known to all enthusiasts around the world, as are the technical expertise in the distillation phase and the first choice raw materials. Laphroaig Lore was born in 2015 to celebrate the double centenary of the distillery's history, and since then it has been a fixed entry in the line of whisky by Laphroaig. Despite being a whisky with no declared age, the barrels selected for this product are aged from 7 to 21 years. Furthermore, the casks are not only the traditional ex Bourbon casks, but a mixture of first fill ex Bourbon casks, smaller casks called quarter casks (often used by Laphroaig) and ex Sherry Oloroso oak casks.

TASTE

Intense and refined, despite the peat and ample spiciness. Maritime and bitter cocoa notes, together with a good flavor and fruity, citric notes of lime and lemon. Baked apple, cinnamon and spicy echoes, for a unique and wide-ranging palate. Satisfying and persistently smoky finish. To try.

AGING

American ex Bourbon barrels and ex European Sherry barrels.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT WHISKY LAPHROAIG LORE

Laphroaig has given birth to a glorious story that has recently completed two centuries: overlooking one of the most beautiful bays in the world, where the sunset seems to never end, Laphroaig is the existing proof that constancy and quality can continue for centuries, with products that have made the history of whisky Scottish, loved by both locals and around the world. Laphroaig is a well-recognizable brand in almost all the bottlers of the world, a capillary distribution that satisfies consumers all over the world, the typical green color of the glass crossing the white of the labels.

With Laphroaig Lore the distillery wanted to do differently and has always focused on green also for the label, a celebratory bottle for the journey achieved so far but above all a promise for the future. Today the challenge for the most historic distilleries with the most loyal customers - like Laphroaig - is to always remain the same as they are while proceeding with the task of following consumption trends.

After a phase of apparent stagnation in the 80s - with the large consumption of vodka driven by the United States and by the prevailing culture of the time - the whisky has returned to the rage in the last 15 years, also thanks to the emergence of new production entities, such as some emerging countries such as Japan and Taiwan. Scotland had to defend themselves from these attacks and, while keeping the winning formula unchanged - that is to try to do the best whisky of the world - was able to play more with refinements and mixing techniques. Laphroaig Lore is one of the results of this historical moment, a whisky tied to tradition as far as the search for intensity is concerned

INSIGHT ON WHISKEY LOPHROAIG LORE

Laphroaig Lore is the perfect opportunity to appreciate a peculiar side of Laphroaig, namely the ability of the company staff to surround themselves with oak barrels of extraordinary quality and give life, with a few simple operations, to a whisky with many levels of analysis, enjoyable for anyone who gets their hands (and nose) on it. Laphroaig Lore has the advantage of not taking refuge behind any number on the label: the company has preferred not to indicate the refinement over years on the label to give its team the opportunity to exploit this opportunity and combine barrels of various origins.

Laphroaig Lore is in fact a perfect marriage between barrels of various types, i.e. barrels with a variable age between 7 years and 21 years, also being able to range between different types, as does not often happen: in this case Laphroaig Lore is the result of the union of traditional ex-bourbon oak barrels, oak barrels that previously contained Oloroso sherry and smaller barrels, i.e. the infamous Quarter Casks which give a faster refinement to the distillate contained.

If the ex Oloroso sherry barrels are a symbol of the past and today are disused due to both qualitative and quantitative scarcity, the Quarter Cask barrels are an explicit reference to the recent past of this distillery, having Laphroaig in its core-range a whisky obtained exclusively with this type of barrels. Alongside the classic ex-bourbon barrel, the so-called American Standard Barrel which continues to give so much joy to distilleries all over the world: the United States regulations in fact require the use of only virgin barrels, having to allocate the second (and third and fourth and beyond) life to other spirits, of which the Scotch Whisky he is the main suspect.

Today Laphroaig is known for the green bottle and for its immutable character, with intense peat smokiness and marine notes, together with the trademarks of the liquorice note and the medicinal note which give a unique tone to every spirit that crosses the door of this production plant. The waves that lap the warehouses where the barrels rest for years, the bay overlooked by the distillery and the uncontaminated nature behind do the rest of the magic: Laphroaig Lore is nothing other than an example of this union between man and nature, a a glass destined to amaze anyone who puts their nostrils into it.

Excellent price considering its excellent characteristics and flavor. Purchased after reading some online reviews and reading the technical data sheet. I was pleasantly surprised, excellent service.

I am writing this review because the shipment arrived earlier than I thought and luckily because I wanted to give it to my father-in-law. I made a good impression. I think there is good value for money.
